OHSU Friends of Doernbecher is a volunteer organization dedicated to long-term support for the hospital. Friends chapters include volunteers from across Oregon and southwest Washington. These chapters hold fundraising events in their communities to raise awareness and funds for Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

All money raised by the Friends of Doernbecher is directed to the Friends of Doernbecher Grant Program, which funds innovative projects and cutting-edge research that directly benefit current and future Doernbecher patients and families. For 17 years, the grant program has provided seed-stage funding for faculty and staff in numerous specialties to pursue and develop relevant and impactful projects. Currently, there are five active chapters: Sophie's chapter - Claudia Swanson ·Felicity Chapter · Oswego Friends · Women for Children

Sophie's Chapter

.

Sophie's chapter is an OHSU Friends of Doernbecher chapter.

Dru's chapter changed it's name in 2019 to Sophie's chapter to reflect our fund raising partnership since 2014 with Big Al's bowling centers and a young patient, Sophie K. Sophie is a current Doernbecher Childrens Hospital patient.

DRU'S CHAPTER- was started over 16 years ago in 2002 and named in honor of Dru Mitchell who was born at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in 1995 with a birth defect called an Omphalocele where the abdominal organs protrude through the abdomen. Dru's parents found out about his diagnosis before he was born and were told he might not survive. Thanks to his surgeon and many other doctors and nurses at Doernbecher who worked to save Dru's life, he is now 24 years old (2019) and doing great. He is still a patient at Doernbecher.

We thank the Mitchell family, and especially Dru, for allowing us to raise DCH funds for so long under Dru's name.
