I was born on February 21, 1995  at Doernbecher Children's Hospital. 5 months before when my mom was four months pregnant she had to have an ultrasound. It was during this test that the doctors found that I had some life threatening problems. They told my parents that my Liver, Intestines and Spleen were outside of my body. This condition, called an Omphalocele is a birth defect where the abdominal organs protrude through the abdomen. They were also told I had an AV Canal Heart Defect and had 2 holes in my heart and that if I survived I would need surgery to put my organs back inside and then a few months later I would need open heart surgery.

I spent the first 3 months of my life in the NICU (Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit). I had my first surgery when I was about 2 hours old. Nine days later I had my second surgery and my parents say I almost died that day.  Over the years I have had a few more surgeries and continue to be a patient at Doernbecher. If it wasn't for the care that I received at Doernbecher, I wouldn't be here today.  Thank you to all of the great doctors and nurses at Doernbecher who saved my life and I will be grateful for the rest of my life. I have been involved with Kids Making Miracles for Doernbecher and now Dru's Chapter as a way to give back.
